Savannah, United States - November 07, 2024 In the aftermath of heavy rain and flooding, a dramatic rescue unfolded on the 4300 Block of ACL Boulevard. Savannah Police Department Sgt. Sharif Lockett and Chatham County Animal Services Officer Steve Workman responded to a report of a dog in distress, possibly drowning in rising floodwaters. The officers searched the area and heard the desperate cries of a dog trapped behind a locked gate on a private lot. After the lot owner arrived to unlock the gate, the officers waded through the floodwaters to reach the dog, who had managed to find a small patch of high ground. Officer Workman secured the dog with a safety rope while Sgt. Lockett carefully carried her out to safety. The dog, now affectionately named "Rain," is recovering at the Chatham County Animal Shelter, waiting for a loving family to adopt her.
