Bradenton, United States - November 19, 2024 A man posing as Elon Musk has been arrested for orchestrating an elaborate scheme that defrauded a 74-year-old Texas woman of $250,000, with total losses potentially reaching $600,000. Jeffrey Moynihan, Jr., 56, a Bradenton business owner, befriended the victim on Facebook in 2023, convincing her to invest in “Musk’s businesses” with promises of a $55 million return. Financial records reveal the victim transferred funds to Moynihan’s accounts tied to his company, Jeff’s Painting and Pressure Washing, LLC. Moynihan was arrested at his home on November 19, while the real Elon Musk was occupied with a SpaceX launch. The Bradenton Police Department (BPD) clarified Musk has no connection to the crime. This case highlights a growing wave of elder fraud, with the BPD’s Elder Fraud Unit investigating nearly $3 million in losses among seniors this year. The investigation remains ongoing.
