STORYLINE:

Tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians have set up tents and taken refuge along southern Gaza's beaches after the Israeli army warned them to leave their homes in the north.

Thousands of their tents have been drowned and destroyed by strong winds recently hit the coast of the Gaza Strip.

"We moved from one area to another. We moved from Nuseirat to Khan Younis and then to Mawasi Khan Younis. Now you see what happened to us. Our tent was flooded and destroyed, my children got wet with seawater and there are other tents that were completely destroyed. We moved the women to another place and I am here to see what we can save. I do not know where to go and we have nothing left."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Arabic): ABBAS LAFI, Displaced Palestinian
"The Israeli army asked us to move to this area and I came here. But as you see what happened to us, the sea waves destroyed our tents and we do not know where to go. We are tired of moving from east to west and from west to east and we do not know where to go. Because of the depression and the destruction of the tent, my children got sick and I had to let them go with their mother to look for another place."

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) announced on Monday that around half a million people in Gaza are at risk of flooding.
