This is the amusing moment elephants participating in an annual cultural festival waited at a set of red lights.

Dozens of the majestic creatures were on their way to the Surin Elephant Festival as they fell in line and patiently waited for the light to turn green.

They then headed to their destination at Si Narong Stadium and the Elephant Showground in Surin, Thailand, on November 15.

Footage shows the animals, along with their mahouts, calmly standing on the busy road.

Elephants from across the province travel to participate in the festival, with their keepers riding and guiding them to the event.

The festivities featured more than 300 elephants, an elephant feast, and various performances. The parade was accompanied by school marching bands, dancing troupes, and school army cadet contingents, with some festival-goers dressed as traditional Thai warriors, elephant catchers, or trainers.

Thailand has around 4,000 elephants in captivity. They are kept at tourist attractions, and sanctuaries or detained privately so they can be hired out for religious customs.
