Italy - December 09, 2024 At the break of dawn, in a solemn display of devotion, Rome’s firefighters upheld a cherished tradition, adorning the statue of the Madonna Immacolata in Piazza di Spagna with a floral crown. At 7:00 a.m., under persistent rain, the firefighters of the Rome command carried out the ritual that marks the start of the celebrations for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. The honor of placing the floral tribute, 27 meters high atop the statue, fell to Fausto Isidori, the most senior team leader of the command. Climbing over 100 steps of the fire truck’s aerial ladder, Isidori executed the gesture with precision and reverence. This deeply spiritual ceremony set the stage for the afternoon arrival of Pope Francis, drawing thousands of faithful who braved the rain to gather in prayer and reflection. The scene—a mix of faith, resilience, and devotion—highlighted the unbreakable bond between the city of Rome and its beloved Marian figure. More than a tradition, this symbolic act pays tribute not only to the Madonna but also to the valor and dedication of the firefighters, whose service and sacrifice embody timeless values celebrated by the Eternal City.
