SOUNDBITE (English): JEAN MENSA, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana
"I have the singular honor as the returning officer of the 2024 presidential election to declare His Excellency John Dramani Mahama as the winner of the 2024 presidential election, and the president-elect of the Republic of Ghana, with the total percentage of 56.55 percent."
The EC said the results were based on 267 of the 276 constituencies, with the remaining nine constituencies' results pending. However, Mensa said that even if all valid votes from the outstanding constituencies were added to the runner-up's tally, they would not alter the outcome.
Born in 1958 in the Savannah region, Mahama previously served as Ghana's president from 2012 to 2017.
