This is the amusing moment cars slid across the icy surface of a snow-covered road in northern India.

The drivers were attempting to negotiate the winding hillside lane during blizzards in Gulmarg, Kashmir, on Friday December 13.

But the tyres on their cars were unable to grip the surface. Onlookers who tried to help steady the vehicles also found themselves slipping and sliding down the slope.

Officials said that region, the most northerly part of India, has been blanketed by snow. Higher elevation areas such as Pir ki Gali, Kupwara, and Gulmarg, have attracted tourists to view the wintery scenes.

The Gulmarg ski resort has recorded a record low temperature of minus nine degrees Celsius, which is 5.4 degrees below normal, according to the Meteorological Centre in Srinagar.
