STORYLINE:

Foreign experts have shared their perspectives on how the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is reshaping infrastructure, enhancing trade and promoting cultural exchange, offering valuable insights into its global impact and future potential.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): VAQAR AHMED, Joint executive director, Sustainable Development Policy Institute, Pakistan
"I think the BRI has been a win-win for China and its counterparts, where, of course, the BRI was implemented, or is still being implemented. We saw it in the case of Central and South Asia, in the case of Africa. Several projects and programs were launched. The BRI investments have led to improved infrastructure in energy, roads, railways, ports, for example."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): DENNIS MUNENE MWANIKI, Executive director of China-Africa Center at Kenya's Africa Policy Institute
"I think the BRI is one of those projects that I normally say an antidote to some of the anti-globalization trends that we're seeing, such as nationalism and protectionism. Right now you see that the BRI has more than 150 participating countries and (over) 30 international organizations, including the United Nations. This is one of the things that you get to see that the BRI becomes a key player in enhancing multiculturalism and ensuring that the global community enjoys development because that's what we want."

SOUNDBITE 3 (English): ALI OGUZ DIRIOZ, Associate professor of international relations at Ankara's TOBB University
"The Belt and Road Initiative is a very important initiative to revive this cross-Eurasian land-based communication and trade network.
If we look directly at the Türkiye-China cooperation, we'll see especially on the railroads, significant investments are being carried on and they continue to be developed.
The Belt and Road Initiative will, by developing the connections, strengthen both regional interconnectivity and also global interconnectivity. So that's a significant opportunity both for developing countries or emerging economies as well as the traditional OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) Western economies."

SOUNDBITE 4 (English): BENJAMIN MGANA, Chief editor of Foreign News of the Guardian in Tanzania
"The Belt and Road Initiative has been transformative for developing countries, including Tanzania. It has enhanced infrastructure, increased trade and fostered people-to-people exchanges. Projects like ports, railways and industrial parks have opened new economic opportunities and strengthened regional connectivity, aligning with Africa's development priorities."
