Typhoon-inspired nativity scene in the Philippines
Filipino Catholics built a typhoon-themed version of a nativity scene, drawing inspiration from their local experiences.
Devotees from the Parish and National Shrine of Saint Padre Pio in Batangas, recently struck by devastating storms, Mary and Joseph amid the deluge.
Footage shows the manger scene with the Holy Family, but Mary has not given birth yet to baby Jesus. Rainwater also trickled down leaks in the roof made of metal sheets without a ceiling.
Joseph wore a raincoat and held an umbrella, while Mary was covered in a robe.
Father Roniel Sulit said in the video: 'This is our typhoon-inspired nativity scene. We portray here Saint Joseph with Mary going to evacuate.'
The table was adorned with canned goods and packs of instant noodles, items commonly included in relief donations for families affected by typhoons in the tropical country.
A nativity scene is a representation of the birth of Jesus Christ, a central event in the Christian tradition, often displayed during the Christmas season.
The parish's version in Santo Tomas, Batangas featured Mary before the birth of Jesus Christ.
