The Great Drone Escape: A Rookie's Wild Ride, from panic to peace, my unforgettable drone first flight adventure.
I recently bought a new drone and took it out for the first flight on a beach, in Thailand. It was quite hot so I worked on it from the shade of very tall trees nearby the beach. My first shock was just how fast and how far it could travel. Earlier on a short walk I had seen a fisherman on the beach so I made this my first point of interest. I turned on the video capture mode and recorded the whole flight. It was a good feeling to glide so easily down the beach and see everything form a new perspective. I saw the fisherman and also some kids playing on the beach. Then I lost sight of the drone and had no idea where it was. Suddenly there was no view of the ocean anymore, it was in a dense forest area and seemed very close the the trees. I was beginning to panic! I tried pressing the return to Home button, but it didn't respond. After many frantic attempts to push the button suddenly it responded and accepted my command. It was a great relief to finally see the drone again, hovering high above me. However there was now another problem, it couldn't land due to the trees, my home position was under the canopy of these trees that were give me shade from the sun. I took control of the drone and landed it close by avoiding the trees. Phew! What a relief. I then relaxed and lay down on a mat for a nap! First flights with a new drone are very stressful experiences in my opinion.
