STORYLINE:

Chinese fashion designer Guo Pei is presenting over 40 haute couture pieces at the M+ Museum of Visual Culture in Hong Kong.

As China's first couture artist with international influences, Guo chose Hong Kong as her first stop in China to exhibit her museum collections.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): GUO PEI, Fashion designer
"I am more eager to hold an exhibition in Hong Kong because it feels like coming back home."

In the late 1980s, she visited Hong Kong for the first time to explore fashion market trends and design directions.

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): GUO PEI, Fashion designer
"From the designers at that time in Hong Kong, I think that as designers from the mainland, we could learn great things and get inspiration from their choice of fabrics and ideas."

Guo opened the atelier Rose Studio in 1997.

In 2015, she became the first Chinese designer to be invited as a guest member of France's Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, the chief governing body of the high-fashion industry.

To Guo, Chinese cultural elements give her confidence and inner energy on the international stage.

SOUNDBITE 3 (Chinese): GUO PEI, Fashion designer
"Culture is, in fact, our confidence. Confidence comes from deep within, and when the external elements activate that inner strength, it will burst forth."

Guo has collected over 1,500 pieces of her artworks over the years and has decided that she will ultimately donate them to museums around the world.

SOUNDBITE 4 (Chinese): GUO PEI, Fashion designer
"Art inspires people to rise, and guides the world and humanity toward beauty."
