This is the heartwarming moment divers rescue a sea ray caught in a net in Thailand.

Staff of the Hat Noppharat Thara–Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park were cleaning underwater waste when they found the small stingray struggling in the ghost net in Krabi province on January 8.

Footage shows a diver cutting the fishing equipment using scissors. The sea ray then fluttered away into the deep upon being freed.

The team also retrieved and disposed of the net, which measured 656 feet and weighed 110 lbs.

In a statement, the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation said: 'We request cooperation from the public to help preserve the Thai seas. Please refrain from throwing trash into the sea to protect marine animals.'

Discarded fishing equipment or 'ghost gear' is a recurring problem in Thai waters. The rubbish contributes to plastic pollution and poses a danger to marine life.

The Thai Department of Marine and Coastal Resources reported that at least 30 per cent of marine life is endangered by plastic pollution in the upper Andaman Sea as of 2023.
