The effectiveness of the African Union (AU) reforms depends more on strong leadership and commitment rather than on structural changes alone, Rwandan President Paul Kagame said Thursday at a press conference in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda.
Kagame recounted his role in spearheading the AU institutional reforms process, a mandate entrusted to him during the 27th AU Summit in Kigali in July 2016.
In February 2024, at the 37th AU Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Kagame handed over the AU reform leadership to Kenyan President William Ruto, marking the conclusion of his eight-year mandate.
