Gaza - January 15, 2025 Storyline: As residents in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday took to the streets to celebrate the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, while many also expressed concerns about the uncertainties in the implementation of the ceasefire. Israel and Hamas have agreed to a Gaza ceasefire and hostage deal after intensive mediation efforts by Qatar, Egypt and the United States, the Qatari prime minister announced on Wednesday. "We are very happy about the agreement. It gives us hope for Gaza's future. The agreement guarantees that no more lives will be lost. After experiencing genocide, this agreement means saving lives. The end of the war brings us an indescribable joy," said a resident in Khan Younis, southern Gaza. However, despite the celebration, many Gaza residents were also filled with sorrow and apprehension. Although the ceasefire agreement has been reached, the Israeli military continued air strikes on Gaza both before and after the agreement, resulting in casualties. Besides, Israel and Hamas had agreed to a ceasefire in November 2023, which ultimately did not result in a full ceasefire. Hence many people wonder whether the new ceasefire would truly hold. The Palestinian death toll from ongoing Israeli strikes in Gaza has risen to 46,707, according to a statement from Gaza-based health authorities on Wednesday.
