Kodiak, United States - January 15, 2025 On January 15, 2025, the Coast Guard rescued two fishermen after their vessel, the Tanusha, capsized approximately 23 miles southeast of Kodiak. The distress alert from the Tanusha's emergency position indicating radio beacon prompted a swift response, including the launch of a helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak and support from Alaska State Troopers. The crew of the nearby fishing vessel Victory received the call for assistance and located the Tanusha, with the two fishermen found in a life raft. A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter hoisted them to safety, with one crew member showing signs of hypothermia and a head injury. The fishermen were transported to Kodiak for medical treatment in stable condition. The use of the Tanusha's emergency beacon proved critical in alerting rescuers, underscoring the importance of safety gear for mariners in life-threatening situations.
