Bolivia: 'Aquellas que persisten', the exhibition that gives voice to marginalized Brazilian women arrives in Bolivia
La Paz, Bolivia - January 18, 2025 The episodes of repression, violence, discrimination and exclusion suffered by many women in Brazil, which are often not recorded in official history, have been rescued by Brazilian artist Danielle Rosa in a photographic exhibition to be shown in Bolivia. Camera: GINA BALDIVIESO. STATEMENTS BY BRAZILIAN ARTIST DANIELLE ROSA: This exhibition came about by reading a letter from Perovais de Caminhos that recorded the arrival of the Portuguese in Brazil. In this letter, it says that the first mass that took place brought together more than 200 indigenous people, all men and just one woman. And this woman made the Portuguese so uncomfortable that they wanted to cover her body. And when I read this letter, I realized that this letter is very famous in Brazil. However, this story is not so famous. The women's stories aren't being talked about, they're not recorded in books. So this exhibition arose from a need to put a magnifying glass on the stories of women in Brazil. And I hope that this exhibition can also have a dialogue with the exhibition about the stories of women in Bolivia. That we can create a conversation between these struggles that we are going through in Latin America. [Restrictions: Spain, Latin America, or the U.S. Hispanic market]
