19/01/2025 - Rome, Italy. A man waves the Rainbow Families flag during the passage of the Miguel's Race organized by the Club Atletico Centrale. Nearly 13,000 athletes, according to the organizers, participated in the ‘Miguel’s Run’, the 10km running event that every year remembers and commemorates the figure of Miguel Benancio Sanchez, an Argentine marathon runner and poet who disappeared in 1978, one of the 30,000 victims of Argentine paramilitaries during the ferocious dictatorship of Jorge Rafael Videla. The event is organized by the Club Atletico Centrale in collaboration with the Department of Sports Policies of the Municipality of Rome. Over the years, the race, in addition to its competitive content, has become a symbol of the promotion of values against racism and of the fight against the social and political abuses that have occurred not only in Argentina, but more generally throughout the world. The carrera de Miguel is the Argentine version of the Race of Miguel.
