A policeman allegedly attacked a bystander for standing too close to a politician's convoy in India.

Footage shows the traffic officer rushing toward the individual, pushing him to the ground before kicking and slapping him in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, on January 19.

Reports said the incident occurred as Governor Mangubhai Patel's motorcade passed through the Anand Nagar intersection.

The cop became visibly agitated after noticing the onlooker near the motorcade.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vikram Raghuvanshi told local media that no one is permitted to approach the Governor's convoy, which is safeguarded under Z+ security, the highest level of protection provided to VIPs in India.

He added that the bystander ignored police warnings by approaching the high-speed caravan.

Raghuvanshi said: 'It was His Excellency the Governor's convoy, which is safeguarded by Z+ security.

'Why would you approach the convoy without proper identification?'

Authorities have launched a thorough investigation into the incident.
