Former U.S. President Joe Biden departed in a farewell ceremony at a military base in Maryland on Monday.

Biden marked the end of his term with his first post-presidential speech addressing his supporters and former White House staff at Joint Base Andrews on January 20.

Footage shows the politician and his wife Jill arriving at the army camp onboard 'Special Air Mission 46' - so-called because he is now once again a private citizen. Emotional supporters were at the venue cheering 'Thank you, Joe!'

The U.S. Air Force Band performed as the couple were escorted onto a plane to be taken to a respite in California.

On the same day, Biden's political rival Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States, marking the beginning of his second, non-consecutive term.
