STORYLINE:
The Malian Armed Forces celebrated the 64th anniversary on Monday, emphasizing national sovereignty as the theme of the event.
Ahead of the military parade at the Military Engineering Square in Bamako, the capital of the West African country, Malian President Assimi Goita laid a symbolic wreath at the "Unknown Soldier" monument.
"We will defend Mali at all times, in all places, and under all circumstances, until final victory," Goita told reporters after the official ceremony.
Delegations from Burkina Faso and Niger also attended the event, during which Goita underscored the "importance of regional cooperation within the framework of the Alliance of Sahel States (ASS)."
According to Goita, the ASS has conducted several joint operations that have resulted in the destruction of terrorist bases.

"I especially call upon the ASS armies to remain united and determined until the final victory. I also want to salute the resilience of the ASS member countries and the mobilization of their populations alongside our allies, which has enabled determined efforts and, above all, gratitude for the success of ongoing operations."
