Coast Guard crews battled a blaze on an oil rig off the coast of Italy.

The fire broke out on the Rospo Mare B oil platform in the Adriatic Sea on Wednesday afternoon, January 22, around 2 pm.

Dramatic footage shows smoke rising from the structure, though the fire itself is not visible.

Reports stated that 26 people were evacuated from the platform and nearby installations as a safety measure.

No injuries were reported, and authorities confirmed that no oil leakage was detected. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Energean, the London-listed energy company managing the Rospo Mare B oil platform, said inspections are underway to assess the extent of the damage.

The Rospo Mare oil field lies 20 kilometres (12 miles) off the coast of Italy's Abruzzo region, in 263ft (80m) deep waters.
