Russia says its Uragan MLRS systems struck Ukrainian forces near Pokrovsk
This is the moment Russian forces reportedly fired a multiple launch rocket system at Ukrainian positions in a forest near Pokrovsk.
The strike was carried out by the 68th Guards Army Corps of the Centre group and allowed the artillery units to advance further into the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, the Russian Ministry of Defence stated on January 22.
Authorities said the soldiers used a Uragan multiple launch rocket system (MRLS) to deliver a massed area strike after reconnaissance units identified a concentration of Ukrainian personnel and military equipment in a wooded area.
The ministry confirmed the crew fired a salvo of 220mm rockets at a range of more than 30 kilometres (18 miles), with detonations and shrapnel damaging field fortifications and hitting targets across a wide area.
Russian drone operators reportedly monitored the strike and confirmed the targets were destroyed. The operation created favourable conditions for the advance of assault units, the ministry added.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, in what the Kremlin is still calling a 'special military operation'.
