A fire erupted at an oil waste management facility in Indonesia yesterday.

The blaze broke out suddenly, quickly engulfing the entire contents of the building in West Karawang District, Karawang Regency, at around 10 pm on Thursday, October 23.

Rohmat Ilyas, Head of the Fire and Rescue Division at the Karawang Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), said: 'We immediately deployed seven fire trucks to the location at PT Dame Alam Sejahtera.

'The situation was quite serious because the burning oil continued to fuel the flames. The fire also spread to nearby homes, but officers are working hard to prevent further damage.'

Firefighting operations lasted for around eight hours before the flames were brought under control.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. There were no immediate reports of injuries or fatalities.
