STORYLINE:

The Chinese embassy in Myanmar hosted Spring Festival celebrations on Thursday in Yangon.
   
Chinese ambassador Ma Jia was joined at the celebration by senior Myanmar officials including Deputy Prime Minister Tin Aung San. Numerous overseas Chinese were among the more than 1,000 people in attendance.
   
Ma extended New Year greetings to the Myanmar people and to all Chinese in Myanmar. The ambassador said that the Spring Festival symbolizes unity and prosperity and embodies the core Chinese cultural values of harmony and peace.
   
In July 2024, Myanmar designated the Chinese Spring Festival as a national public holiday.
    
Tin Aung San said that Myanmar and China share deep "Paukphaw" (fraternal) ties and continue to build a shared future.
   
The deputy prime minister expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for its assistance and consistent support in facilitating the peace and national reconciliation process within Myanmar. Tin Aung San hopes to further enhance mutually beneficial cooperation in both regional and international arenas.
   
Attendees were delighted with Spring Festival performances and were presented with a feast including traditional Chinese flower cakes and dumplings.
   
Nearly 40 booths were set up to display Chinese calligraphy, painting, porcelain, paper cutting, and lacquer fan craftsmanship.
