Florida man heroically removes hook lodged in blue heron's neck
David Frei told Newsflare: "This is totally weird. We see this particular heron every time we go to Loxahatchee. This particular time. it was hanging around to us much closer than usual. It never came up onto the dock. But today it was getting really close when I noticed it had a hook in its neck.
"After a few unsuccessful attempts to catch it - and after reading about how herons can cause deep puncture wounds with their beaks - I gave up.
"Another guy comes along and we decide to give it another team effort. I had also asked the cop parked by the water if we could. He called his partner who said he tried last week but couldn't get the bird, but that we were free to try.
"And... GREAT SUCCESS!
"We didn't even get a bite fishing, but this was much more satisfying."
