Smokey Kitchen fire escalates to 2nd alarm rowhome fire, shamokin, Pennsylvania United States #1
1/31/2025 At 2145hrs, emergency services responded to a reported kitchen fire on South Franklin in Shamokin, prompting a first alarm. Local police rapidly assessed the situation, reporting multiple houses heavily involved in the rear, and a second alarm was subsequently struck. The tight streets and overhead wires presented challenges for firefighting operations, limiting apparatus access and ladder truck deployment. Firefighters from across the county worked to contain the blaze, finally declaring it under control after 2300hrs, with some units remaining on scene into the early morning. The fire's cause remains under investigation.

Northumberland County Dispatched a working kitchen fire at 230 South Franklin Street, Shamokin. The Shamokin Police department confirmed a working fire prior to the Fire Departments. Firefighters from Shamokin and neighboring fire companies battled a two-alarm row home fire at 228-230-232 S. Franklin St. that started at about 9:50 p.m. Friday.
Heavy smoke poured from the front and rear of the properties, located a half block south of James Pizza, and filled the block before the arrival of firefighters. Heavy fire flowed from the rear of the properties. Firefighters battled the fire on all fronts.
The fire was declared under control at 23:16 p.m. No further information was available late Friday night as firefighters remained on the scene.
The wave of fire units arriving drew a crowd of neighbors and other spectators to the narrow street, many shooting photos or video of the scene, where fire hoses and fire trucks blocked the 200 block. That section of South Franklin and a portion of East Pine Street were closed to traffic.
