Egypt: Foreign ministers of five Arab countries reject Trump's Gaza relocation proposal
Cairo, Egypt - February 01, 2025 Foreign ministers of five Arab countries on Saturday rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s suggestion to relocate Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt and Jordan. The foreign ministers of Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE held intensive talks with representatives of the Palestinian Authority and the Secretary-General of the Arab League in Cairo on Saturday. The ministers called on the international community to work together to accelerate the reconstruction of Gaza. They emphasized that any reconstruction plan must ensure Palestinians remain on their land. The Cairo meeting did not mention the United States in its final statement, but it was a clear response to U.S. President Donald Trump's suggestion that Egypt and Jordan accept Palestinian transfers from Gaza. Qatar's Prime Minister warned that calls for the forced migration of Palestinians could once again ignite violence in the occupied territories. His counterparts from Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE unanimously rejected any attempts to undermine Palestinians' rights to their land, including building Israeli settlements, annexing more territory, expelling Palestinians from any region, or demolishing their homes. The Arab foreign ministers also said that the UN's Palestinian refugee agency, UNRWA, is irreplaceable. The ministers reaffirmed their stance that a two-state solution is the only path to peace. They also welcomed Egypt’s plan to co-host an international forum for rebuilding Gaza. Shotlist: Cairo, Egypt - Feb 1, 2025: 1.
