Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti told the media on Tuesday that he completely agrees with the formal complaint made by the club about the standard of refereeing during the 1-0 defeat to Espanyol on Saturday.

Los Blancos sent a four-page letter to the Spanish Football Federation in which they detailed 'the scandalous refereeing and VAR performance' during the La Liga match.

The club denounced a 'brutal tackle' on Kylian Mbappé which they considered a straight red-card offence, and the disallowing of a 'completely legal' goal by Vinicius.

Real will have a chance to bounce back from Saturday's defeat when they face Leganes on Wednesday for a place in the Copa del Rey semi-finals.

But Ancelotti admitted to an "emergency situation" ahead of the match with injuries sidelining defenders David Alaba and Antonio Rüdiger, while Mbappé is also unavailable due to a calf issue.
