An inventive teacher made a windmill to generate electricity using old woks.

High school physics teacher Nikom Ounjai bought five pans at the local thrift store for 100 baht each and built the DIY wind turbine in Maha Sarakham, Thailand on January 26.

Footage shows the functional model with rotating blades made from a set of cookware.

The frying pans were attached to a discarded bicycle wheel which was then affixed to a stripped branch.

Teacher Nikom said: 'This is a new pan. I bought it a the Twenty Shop and only took me a day to complete.'

The educator said he became inspired by the shape and weight of the pan while browsing through store shelves.

He added: 'The front catches the wind well. The back is aerodynamic so it spins through the air easily.

'The pan is heavy so it has inertia which increases the torque of the rotating shaft. It is made of metal so it is durable.'

A DIY windmill can generate energy by converting wind power into electricity using a simple system of blades, a generator, and wiring.
