A crash during heavy snow left one dead and 11 injured in Canada.

A 49-year-old man succumbed to injuries from a multi-vehicle collision amid severe weather conditions on Highway 11 in Orillia, Ontario on February 7 at 9 a.m.

Footage shows wrecked cars scattered in the middle of both lanes.

Heavy traffic can be seen accumulating amid snow squalls, leaving motorists stranded on the road.

Local news reports said that snow squalls were actively battering the Orillia and Midland areas.

Police reportedly rushed to the scene and set up a warming centre at Rotary Place to assist the victims.

Environment Canada lifted the warning for Orillia and Midland later that afternoon.

Authorities urged residents to cancel unnecessary travel. Several institutions, such as Lakehead University and City of Orillia facilities, were temporarily closed.
