This is the spectacular moment fountains of lava erupted from the Kilauea volcano in Hawaii.

Footage shows the fiery molten burst illuminating the night as episode nine of the Kilauea summit eruption continued on February 11.

An evening clip captured lava rock surging from the Halema'uma'u crater, with fountain heights reaching up to 200ft (61m) from the north vent.

Authorities said the south vent, split into two streams, sent lava soaring up to 100ft (30m).

Although activity had decreased since the eruption began that morning, the spectacle remained a striking display of nature's force.

Kilauea is the world's most active volcanic mass and is the central feature of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

Its caldera is nearly three miles long and two miles wide, with an area of more than four square miles.
