Football stadium collapses injuring fans in Indonesia
This is the dramatic moment a football stadium collapsed injuring fans in Indonesia.
Spectators were watching a local game at the packed Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium in West Java when a portion of the guardrails collapsed on February 16.
Footage shows fans spilling onto the seats below them as the green fence buckled under their weight. The fall caused a domino effect as other people were pushed forward.
Officials did not clarify how many people were injured.
Umar Setiono, head of the Regional Technical Implementation Unit of the Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium, said: 'There are several facilities that we need to repair. There are several fences that have come off from gates 11, 10, 9, 7 and some in the south.
'We have facilities outside, some fences in ring 3 were also damaged, so we are still recording the data later to be sent to the agency and leadership for repairs.'
Local media reported that the stadium had undergone renovations following the tragic Kanjuruhan Stadium stampede in East Java, in October 2022.
The fatal crush occurred in Malang City, when police fired tear gas into the crowd to disperse rioting supporters after a football match, triggering a deadly stampede that resulted in 135 deaths and hundreds of injuries.
