Gafsa, Tunisia - February 18, 2025 [WARNING: violent content] At least six people died and about ten were injured on Tuesday following a collision between a bus and a truck loaded with phosphates in the Tunisian province of Gafsa, western of the country, near the border with Algeria. Civil Protection sources, indicated that the accident occurred on the road that connects the cities of Redeyef and Um Laarayes, adding that the injured were transported to a hospital in the first location. The accident involved a bus from the Gafsa Regional Transport Company, which was heading to Sfax (east), and the causes of the collision with the phosphate truck are not yet known. Gafsa is an important mining region, but maintains high unemployment rates, despite the revenues generated by the export of phosphates.
