STORYLINE:
The 17th edition of the Tour of Rwanda international cycling competition kicked off in Rwanda's capital, Kigali, on Sunday.
Rwandan President Paul Kagame flagged off the prologue race alongside International Cycling Union (UCI) president David Lappartient.
The eight-stage race runs from Feb. 23 to March 2 and covers 812 kilometers across Rwanda. The longest stage spans 158 km between Rukomo and Kayonza.
A total of 69 riders from 14 teams are competing.
This year's Tour of Rwanda serves as a precursor to the 2025 UCI Road World Championships, which will be held in Kigali in September.
