Entebbe, Uganda - February 26, 2025 WIFE AND CHILDREN OF WARLORD JOSEPH KONY RETURN TO UGANDA FROM CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC. The family of Joseph Kony, the fugitive warlord Joseph Kony the leader of Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) has been repatriated back to Uganda from the Central African Republic (CAR). The family group that included Kony’s wife, Ruth Achan, and their children Maisa Amu, Betty Akidi, and Pope Kony were received at Entebbe International Airport on Wednesday, Feb, 26 by Uganda’s State Minister for Northern Uganda, Kenneth Omona. The family is set to be resettled in Gulu, while Kony remains at large with a bounty of Shs. 17 billion (approximately $4.5 million USD) on his head. This repatriation follows previous efforts to bring former LRA members back to Uganda. “Kony’s wife and the children who were airlifted to Uganda on Wednesday are the latest members of his family to be returned to Uganda,” said Maj. Gen. Felix Kulayigye, a UPDF Army military spokesman. In July 2023, Uganda received 14 former LRA fighters, along with their families, after they surrendered to CAR authorities. Led by Major General Ali Acaye, also known as “Doctor,” the group included 14 wives and 33 children. The LRA began in the 1980s and, at the peak of its powers, gained notoriety for cruelty against civilians in Uganda, the Congo, the Central African Republic, and what is now South Sudan.
