Chris Eubank Jr was scanned by an “egg detector” ahead of a tense media conference with bitter rival Conor Benn on Thursday as the war of words continued ahead of their April showdown at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

On Tuesday the IBO world middleweight champion slapped an egg in the face of Benn during a face off in the Manchester leg of the fight’s promotional tour, saying on Thursday Benn “deserved the embarrassment.”

A scheduled fight between the pair in October 2022 was called off after Benn failed a voluntary drugs test, testing positive for female fertility drug clomifene.

That prompted a two-year battle with anti-doping authorities, before his suspension was lifted in November.

UK Anti-Doping Agency announced it would not appeal against a decision from the National Anti-Doping Panel to lift his ban, with the British Boxing Board of Control also not appealing.

Benn has always denied intentionally doping and both fighters are being tested by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (Vada) for the contest.

An independent report by the WBC in February 2023 said his failed drugs test was not intentional and could have been caused by a "highly elevated consumption" of eggs.

The fight, which takes place at the home of English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur on April 26th will be at middleweight, but Eubank Jr’s IBO world title will not be on the line.

Welterweight Benn will have to step up two weight divisions in what the promoters are calling the “biggest fight in British boxing history” in financial terms.

The fight reignites a family rivalry after their hall-of-fame fathers fought in two epic middleweight world title battles the early 1990s.
