China: Tech hub Shenzhen leads China's robotics revolution
China - Recent Tech hub Shenzhen leads China's robotics revolution (Voice_over) Shenzhen's robotics sector dominates China - but why? Imagine humanoid robots nailing front flips, coordinating with autonomous forklifts, or multitasking across dynamic environments. This isn't science fiction, it's Shenzhen's reality. (Sound_bite) Michael Tam, Chief Brand Officer, UBTECH Robotics: "We're in an era of human-AI coexistence. Breakthroughs in large language models are propelling us toward General Artificial Intelligence." (Voice_over) The numbers speak volumes: 51,100 robot-related enterprises, and a 179.7 billion yuan, or 25 billion US dollar robotics industrial chain output. The secret? A self-sustaining ecosystem. At a small electronics market, robot parts are sold like bubble tea - fast, cheap, and tailored on demand. (Sound_bite) Reporter: "What's the fastest lead time for sensors?" Vendor: "About one week." (Stand_up) Xu Hua, Reporter "The vendor's confidence stems from the fact that their shop is just 30 minutes from an industrial park in Bao'an district." (Voice_over) A 2023 white paper on the industrial development of robotics in Shenzhen says 80 percent of components in Bao'an District's industrial park are sourced within a 50 kilometers radius, slashing costs by 30 percent. (Sound_bite) Wang Guoan, CEO, Hypersen Technologies (Shenzhen): "You can see, this is our latest six-axis force and torque sensor. And now we are providing this product for more than 20 industrial robot companies." (Voice_over) With a 10-billion-yuan, or 1.4-billion US dollar government pledge to create the best sci-tech innovation ecosystem, Shenzhen is shifting gears. (Sound_bite) Tan Weijia, Executive Secretary General, Shenzhen Robotics Association: "Robotic science is very comprehensive and developing rapidly. So Shenzhen university and institutes, they courage the PI (principal investigators) policy, which is very friendly. To this subject, they do have attract a large number of the young researchers with the background in robotic project, as well as the different background to join the robotic project team." (Voice_over) From expressive humanoids to micro-factory drone swarms, Shenzhen proves that when innovation races alongside supply chains, the future gets built at Shenzhen speed.
