Debris fell from swaying buildings as a rare magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Bangkok, Thailand, today.

Video shows metal sheets plunging from a high-rise in the capital city at around 2:20 pm. Water was also seen cascading from a rooftop pool.

Officials said the quake was a shallow 10 kilometres, with an epicentre in neighbouring Myanmar, according to initial reports.

The US Geological Survey said the tremor struck at a depth of 10 kilometres (six miles), and was centred in neighbouring Myanmar, around 50 kilometres (30 miles) east of Monywa City.

Many buildings were evacuated as they swayed in the rare quake.
