Teenager swept away by strong waves is rescued in the Philippines
A teenager swept away by strong waves was rescued by a quick-thinking coast guard in the Philippines.
Heart-stopping footage shows the responder in uniform rushing towards a holidaymaker being tossed violently by choppy seas in San Juan, La Union, on Sunday.
The coast guard reached the 16-year-old swimmer and helped her to safety. Reports said she had been dragged roughly 15 metres from the shore by powerful currents and large waves.
An initial medical assessment by the Philippine Coast Guard confirmed the teen had no visible injuries or abrasions.
Officials reminded locals and tourists to always follow beach safety guidelines, avoid swimming in rough conditions, and heed warning signs and lifeguard instructions.
