Bangkok, Thailand - March 28, 2025 On March 28, X user @ct18zo posted a video of a building collapsing in Chatuchak, Bangkok, due to a strong earthquake that struck Thailand. The user commented, "Earthquake causes building collapse at Chatuchak." In Bangkok, now declared a disaster area by city authorities, a high-rise building under construction fell near the bustling Chatuchak Market. Dramatic footage shared on social media captured the structure crumbling into a massive dust cloud, with onlookers screaming and fleeing in panic. Rescuers report that at least 117 people are missing in the collapsed building. The city’s deputy governor, Tavida Kamolvej, confirmed nine deaths in Bangkok, including eight at the building site. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported the quake had a depth of 10km (6.2 miles) and was centered about 17km from Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest city. A 6.4-magnitude aftershock rattled the region shortly after the initial tremor.
