Eastover, United States - March 28, 2025 U.S. Army Soldiers from the 1-111th General Support Aviation Battalion, 59th Aviation Troop Command, based at McEntire Joint National Guard Base, are actively engaged in fire suppression missions. On March 28, 2025, they utilized UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters to tackle wildfires on the North side of Table Rock Mountain. The helicopters, alongside CH-47 Chinooks from the 2-238th General Support Aviation Battalion, filled buckets at Atagahi Lake. They then dropped water over the burning areas, aiming to control the Table Rock Complex Wildfires that have threatened the region. On March 26, 2025, a soldier from the 1-111th Battalion observed the landscape from a Black Hawk during a mission. The flights targeted both the Table Rock and Persimmon Ridge fires, showcasing the Guard’s ongoing efforts to protect the area. The South Carolina National Guard remains committed to fighting these wildfires. Their helicopter crews continue to work tirelessly, providing critical support to ground teams battling the blaze.
