Nuuk, Greenland - March 29, 2025 During his brief visit to Greenland with his wife and the Pituffik Missile Base, Vice President J.D. Vance made it clear that "the (U.S.) government is very interested in Arctic security. As you know, it's an important issue and it's only going to grow in the coming decades." He also indicated that Denmark had not done a good job with the people of Greenland. Despite the rejection of the Greenlandic people and the Danes, the U.S. president has shown no signs of easing pressure in the area. Along those lines, and one day after this visit, Trump stated that they plan to obtain "100%" of Greenland. He added that there is "a good chance we can do it without military force," but that "I'm not ruling anything out." When asked what message the acquisition of Greenland would send to Russia and the rest of the world, Trump replied: "I don't really think about that. I really don't care. Greenland is a very separate issue, a very different one. It's about international peace. It's about international security and strength." He also noted that ships are circling Greenland from Russia, China, and many other places. "We're not going to allow things to happen that are harmful to the world or to the United States," he added.
