Sudan - April 12, 2025 A Sudanese family has lived under the control of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the Haj Yousif area for nearly two years. Their home is situated next to a makeshift RSF detention center, reportedly used for the arrest, torture, and abuse of civilians in the area. One of the women in the family recounts the harrowing experiences they endured—describing how they would hear the screams of detainees day and night, including women subjected to sexual violence. She speaks of the emotional trauma caused by hearing these cries, which became a constant reminder of the brutal reality surrounding them. She also describes how RSF forces would execute some of the detainees and dispose of their bodies, either by leaving them in the streets or dumping them into nearby sewage wells. During the height of the RSF’s presence in the neighborhood, the family was trapped inside their home for days. When a family member died due to illness, they had no choice but to bury him just outside their front door. Since then, the father and his children visit the grave every day, a painful symbol of the siege they lived through.
