A Delta Air Lines plane suffered an engine fire in front of shocked passengers in Florida on Monday afternoon.

Footage shows flames ripping through the Airbus A330 while it was pushing back from the gate at Orlando International Airport bound for Atlanta.

Terrified passengers fled from the plane using the emergency slide.

Onlooker Dylan Wallace said: 'I was at the airport to board a different flight when I saw flames near the Delta aircraft. It was a tense moment.'

Delta Air Lines said the plane was carrying 282 passengers, 10 flight attendants and two pilots. The flight was cancelled.

A spokesman said: 'We appreciate our customers' cooperation and apologise for the experience.

'Nothing is more important than safety and Delta teams will work to get our customers to their final destinations as soon as possible.'

The aircraft, registered N826NW, was fitted with two American General Electric engines.
