A man was lucky to escape injury when his electric surfboard hit a submerged object - catapulting him off into the water.

Andrey Kagan, 36, was surfing on Lake Ray Hubbard in Dallas, Texas, on a Waydoo Efoil—an electric surfboard with a motor and wing-like structure attached to its underside.

Andrey was cruising when, suddenly, the efoil disappeared from underneath him, throwing him into the water.

He posted dramatic footage of the incident online, prompting many viewers to suggest he may have hit a large fish or even an alligator.

But Andrey believes he struck a submerged tree, which caused the board to give way.

Andrey, from Dallas, Texas, said: "I was just cruising on my new Waydoo Efoil when all of a sudden it disappeared from underneath me and I instantly ended up in the water."

"My first thought was that my efoil had disintegrated after hitting a log underwater."

"This lake is known for having submerged trees."

"To my amazement, the board was totally fine—as was I."

"I used my remote to bring the efoil back to me, got right back on, and kept cruising."
