Israel demolishes dozens of Palestinian structures in sweeping West Bank raids (2)
QALQILYA, PALESTINE - MAY 5, 2025: Israeli occupation forces carried out a series of demolitions and raids across the occupied West Bank on Monday, May 5, targeting Palestinian homes and properties in multiple locations. In the village of Al-Funduq, east of Qalqilya, Israeli troops demolished a 200-square-meter home belonging to Palestinian resident Firas Talal Balah. In a separate operation in Al-Mughayyir, north of Ramallah, soldiers sealed off all entrances to the village before demolishing a 150-square-meter home, displacing five people. In the An Nabi Ilyas in Qalqilya, Israeli soldiers forcibly entered several roadside repair shops without providing any explanation and confiscated vehicles from the premises, according to eyewitnesses. Elsewhere, in the town of Ed-Daba near Masafer Yatta in the southern West Bank, Israeli forces—accompanied by bulldozers—demolished 25 Palestinian-owned structures. The destruction included homes, a water well, agricultural facilities, and animal shelters, most of which belonged to the Debabise family. In each case, Palestinian residents were forcibly evicted, with no opportunity to collect their belongings before the demolitions were carried out. According to Palestinian sources, the Israeli army also demolished 152 Palestinian structures, including dozens of homes, across the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem in April 2025. The demolished buildings included 96 inhabited houses, 10 uninhabited houses, and 34 agricultural facilities, the official Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission said in a report. Moayad Shaaban, head of the commission, said Israeli authorities also issued 46 demolition orders to Palestinian structures, as part of Israel's ongoing policy of cracking down against Palestinian presence in the occupied territory. He said Israeli authorities reviewed 27 plans for building inside Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, a move that would swallow 3,030 dunams (nearly 750 acres) of Palestinian lands. The commission also reported 1,693 Israeli assaults in April, including 341 carried out by illegal settlers against Palestinians. Nearly 960 Palestinians have been killed and more than 7,000 injured in attacks by the Israeli army and illegal settlers in the West Bank since the start of the Gaza genocide in October 2023, according to Palestinian figures. In July 2024, the International Court of Justice declared Israel's decades-long occupation of Palestinian land illegal and demanded the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
