TOKYO, JAPAN - MAY 11, 2025: People celebrated the Kanda Matsuri, one of Tokyo’s three major festivals, on Sunday, May 11, in the Japanese capital. The Edo-period tradition, held only in odd-numbered years, features a parade of portable shrines known as “Mikoshi” carried through the streets by worshippers. The procession symbolizes the temporary visit of deities to bless residents and offer spiritual protection, culminating at the Kanda Myojin Shrine. Writing by Aleyna Cil
