Delighted kid surprised with six goslings - after pet goose died
This is the moment a delighted schoolboy was surprised with six goslings - after his pet goose was killed in a fox attack.
Jack Powell, 10, was given the birds just a month after his beloved pet Quacks died.
After opening an egg stand early this spring, Jack saved up money and bought Quacks, but just a couple months later a fox attacked the farm and killed the goose.
Jack was left devastated until one day his mother, Amiste Cusson, 33, overheard that there were going to be African goslings for sale in their local pet store.
Amiste rushed out first thing the next morning after dropping Jack off at school and bought all six of the goslings, only to surprise Jack with them later that afternoon.
Amiste, a stay at home mother based in Canterbury, Connecticut, said: "It was such a happy and giddy moment."
"He is just such a sweet and good kid, so being able to give him a moment like this meant so much."
"He loves the animals and always has, so I'm happy to foster that in him."
The family lives opposite the road from their farm where they house cattle, sheep, goat, chickens, emus and a couple of dogs.
Jack had always wanted a goose, which is why he used the money he earned from his egg stand on Quacks.
Jack then later witnessed the fox attack and, despite efforts from his dad, Jeremiah Powell, 45, to scare the fox away, they weren't able to reach the goose in time.
Jack was heartbroken and didn't speak for the rest of the day after the incident.
Amiste said: "It was so difficult to see him so upset."
"That's why when I overheard someone asking about goslings in our local feed store, I knew immediately what to do."
"I asked the guy what time the store opens and I went straight there after school drop off the next morning."
"Once I was in I saw there were six goslings and I thought the more the merrier!"
Amiste then went a got Jack out of school for the surprise, citing the reason that one of his ducks wasn't looking too good and he should check on it.
Then Amiste was able to capture the reveal on camera, showing Jack's face break out into an enormous smile as he shot out of the car to see all the goslings.
Amiste said: "It was such a wonderful surprise."
"They now all follow Jack everywhere as he has totally become their mother."
"We have also made adjustments to our fencing so a fox shouldn't be able to reach the geese without running into our guard dog, Boris."
