On May 19, a real-life version of “The Eagle Catches the Chick” (a Chinese child's game similar to hide and seek) unfolded outside a farmhouse in Chenzhou, Hunan Province.

Surveillance footage shows an eagle suddenly swooping into the yard, attempting to snatch a chick. The mother hen immediately sounded an alarm and fiercely flapped her wings to drive the eagle away. Despite her desperate efforts, she was unable to stop the eagle from carrying one chick off.

However, the mother hen didn’t give up — she continued to chase the eagle in a courageous pursuit. Once the eagle flew away, she quickly returned to care for the remaining chicks in the nest.

The owner, Ms. Cao, said she reviewed the surveillance footage afterward and was deeply moved by the hen’s actions, calling it a powerful display of maternal love.
