Crane mistakenly enters tiger enclosure in search of food, quickly becomes prey
On May 24, in Dezhou, Shandong, an incident occurred at the Quancheng Europark Wildlife Kingdom where a grey crane mistakenly entered the tiger enclosure.
A grey crane entered the tiger activity area for unknown reasons and was preyed upon after a brief standoff with seven tigers. Video footage from the scene shows the crane spreading its wings in an attempt to resist but was ultimately surrounded and subdued by the group of tigers.
Zoo staff stated that it is currently unclear whether the grey crane was a captive bird from within the park, a nearby domesticated crane, or a wild one, and further verification is needed.
The zoo emphasized that the crane enclosure is located far from the tiger area and speculated that the crane may have accidentally entered due to the park's open design. Dynamic monitoring has been strengthened, and visitors are urged to report any abnormalities promptly.
The grey crane is a nationally protected Class II species in China. If it is ultimately confirmed to be a wild individual, the incident may involve responsibilities related to ecological protection and park safety management. The shrinking of grey crane habitats and overlap with human activity areas may be one of the contributing factors behind its accidental entry into the tiger enclosure.
